Silencer

Silencer is a DNA region that when bound by an repressor protein hinders transcription. Its typical length is 50-1500bp, and it can be up to 1Mbp away upstream or downstream from the promoter. It is usually found in cis- but also trans-position. Enhancer is the agonistic DNA region.
