Somatic mutation

Synonym(s): somatic cell genetic mutation

A somatic mutation can occur in a cell of living organism. It is transmitted by cell division to daughter cells of the same lineage. In contrast to germline mutations, the mutations are not transmitted to the offspring. Aomatic mutations are always acquired mutations. The revers is not always true.
