The genetic predisposition to to meningococcal meningitis is defined by complement deficiencies in particular of the terminal membrane attack complex (C5-C9). Also complement regulatory protein can be altered, C3, CFH, CFD, and CFP for instance.
Prophylaxis is successful with vaccination.
